BEAVERTON,OR — Valley Catholic School students who were learning in portables for the last year started school this week in a new $16 million building.
The elementary and middle school building, which includes science labs and a garden rooftop, will be dedicated in a Friday ceremony on the Beaverton campus.
Construction on the building began May 2010. The Sisters of St. Mary of Oregon worked with Soderstrom Architects to design a building that meets sustainability requirements for a gold LEED certificate. An official determination will be made in 2012, according to a news release.
The building replaces temporary classrooms for kindergarten through eighth-grade students. On Tuesday, they had their first day of school in the new building.
The Sisters of St. Mary of Oregon will host the ceremony, and Archbishop John Vlazny will lead a 6:30 p.m. blessing of the building.
