In September 2003, Salem-Keizer School District selected Soderstrom Architects for the design and construction administration of their new 2-story, K-5 elementary school. The new school building replaced the existing Bush Elementary School on a new 4.5 acre site.

The scope of work included the design and construction of the new school with site improvements for an adjacent public park. We negotiated with the City of Salem to vacate the street dividing the school from the park, effectively creating a much larger park site with room for a soccer pitch as a community amenity. Bush Elementary School is designed to comply with LEED certification criteria. The mechanical systems for the building will perform with 25% less energy than the Oregon Energy Code requires.
