Soderstrom Architects assisted Central Catholic High School with their new master plan, which mapped out the scope and progression of their multi-phased comprehensive remodel/ addition project.
The cornerstone of Phase 1 of the remodel was the new 1,944 SF chapel located adjacent to the main entry. The 70+ student chapel is located adjacent to the main entry (on axis), communicating one of the primary missions of this school's faith-based education. The chapel is arranged with antiphonal seating, where students face each other in chairs or are seated on the floor. The ceiling is a shallow dome, lit indirectly to give a sense of infinity, and the windows are made of art glass that was designed in collaboration with the Archdiocese, the architect, and an artist.
